Extension at Lajpatrai Hostel

Shri P. D. Karkhanis Vidyarthi Vasatigraha (New Building) – Further to our extension to the hostel last year, when we added 10 rooms to accommodate 40 students together with a computer room and training room, a function was organized on Republic day to begin work on the additional three floors. This has ben made possible as a result of the generous donation by Shri. P D Karkhanis. This will accommodate about 130 more students. Total capacity of the Lajpatrai Bhavan Hostel will then reach about 300 students.

The work is expected to be complete by the year end.

Republic Day was celebrated in all the three hostels with flag hoisting by honorable chief guests. The chief guests spoke about the relevance and importance of the republic day in our democracy.

Smt. Renu tai Gavaskar – Social activist was invited for the function at Apte Hostel

Dr. Anil Lachke - Sr. Scientist was the chief guest at Lajpatrai Hostel

Smt. Vasantha Ramaswamy – Retired Director – Defence R&D addressed the students at Sumitra sadan.

A get together of Samiti’s donors and well wishers was arranged at Apte Hostel in the evening.

An exhibition of works of art and crafts with some projects done by students was well attended and appreciated by all the visitors.

Annual essay competition organized jointly by “SAKAL “ group of newspapers and Samiti received an overwhelming response from people from all walks of life from all over Maharashtra .

The prize distribution ceremony was held at Apte Hostel on 20 th Jan. 2007 .

Our trustee Shri. Deepak Shikarpur had organized a visit to Infosys Technologies Hinjawadi, Pune

30 students and some members visited Infosys Technologies campus at Pune, Hinjawadi,

Visit was also arranged to Jejuri and Indapur for Staff and members on 11 th Feb. 2007 .

At Jejuri, the visit was to a school run by Vanasthali Gramin Vikas Kendra Smt. Nirmalatai Purandare showed us around the school. The visiters were greeted with a cultural program by the school children.

At Indapur, one of our past students, Shri Tushar Ranjankar has built from scratch a training institute for Computer Hardware and Software.

The visitors were astonished at the scale of the Institute, well beyond every ones imagination.

Career and employment guidance meets were organized at 6 rural centres for the youth along with an education guidance meet for school students.

3 students, one from each hostel , have been selected for employment by Infosys Technologies during campus interviews at their respective colleges.
